Need to not get frustrated.
I remember when I was in kindergarten (yes its was a long, long, long, time ago but I am not senile yet). It was fun. Lots of fun. I learned all my letters and numbers and few other little things.
It is not like that anymore. Isaiah is expected to be reading by the end of the year (6 weeks to go). Well he had a weak pre-school situation and didn't go into school knowing as much as maybe he could. I did not worry about it, because I remembered just a few years ago a teacher telling my mother (when one of my young siblings started school) that they will teach them all the need to know and that if she worked on following directions that was the biggest help.
Isaiah does read. He can read pretty well now. Its that he doesn't always want to. Last night I am not sure if he just wanted to keep prolonging bed time, or he was getting attention or what, but it was hard. He would sound out a word over and over again and not put it together. Fine so daddy told him what it should have been. Next page same word, same situation. He was not paying attention or just being silly. So Allen said lets put the book up we can read more tomorrow. Then Isaiah bust out into tears. It was late he needed sleep. I think we are going to get a timer and see if that helps.

Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!
My husband and I hate bugs. I mean really hate bugs. We used to tease that when we had kids they would probably would love bugs.
Well we were right. Isaiah is a bug boy, but Christina is still pretty fascinated with the creepy crawlies.
Yesterday when I picked up Isaiah he had found an inchworm and wanted to take it home. He has a small plant that he grew and it was on there. I said it is okay. As long as once home it stayed outside. The kids kept running to the door to check on it. Eventually the inch worm found its way off the plant. They were so sad.
Why are kids so attracted to bugs? They are so gross.

Long night
I have always known that my kids do best when on a schedule. That is why we try to fit naps into the schedule on the weekends when we can. We also try to make sure they are in bed for the night by 8:30 (well 8:00 is bedtime but it gets later then that every now and then).
This weekend we tested those limits. Saturday Isaiah did get a little bit of a nap (maybe an hour). Saturday during the day was an exciting time (and the subject of another post). My husband decided that we needed to have a date that night. Our anniversary is next weekend but I will be working a wedding and so he decided to take me out early. So with a phone call we get a baby sitter (what would we do with out grandparents near by).
We took advantage of the time without kids and had a nice long dinner out. We finally got back to pick the kids up at 11:00 p.m. When we walk into my moms Christina is asleep on her lap. And Mom said she just went to sleep. And Isaiah was wide awake. He was watching TV with them. We get home get them in bed and go to bed ourselves. 11:55 (yeah, I looked at the clock) Isaiah walks in and said he was scared. I remind him there is nothing to be scared of and go back to bed. 12:45 He is back and still scared of the dark and shadows. This is where I am sure I have failed the parenting test. I think a good mother would get up walk him back to his room point out all the shadows to show him what made them and rub his back until he was asleep. Did I do that? Nope. I asked him what he needed. He responded that he needed a story. I informed him that it was past bed time, and past story time and he needed to go to bed and get some sleep.
I thought that was the end of it. I finally fall asleep at 1:30 (I think I kept waiting for him to come in again). I wake up at 7:00 not really wanting to be awake but for some reason can’t sleep in. My husband wakes up and I was telling him about Isaiah and he slept through it all. He thinks the dinosaur movie he watched earlier might have been a bit much for him. Then I realize I hear something. I look on the floor on the end of the bed and there is Isaiah asleep with my afghan pulled over him.
We talk quietly for a few more minutes about it, and we hear something I look up to see Isaiah quietly leaving my room and closing the door. As soon as it’s closed he opens it again and walks in like he just woke up from his bed. He was trying to be sneaky. I asked him why he slept on the floor in my room. You should have seen that little boys face as he realized he was caught. I think if he had gone to bed earlier he would not have had that problem. Oh and we are limiting the dino movies too.

Week of the young child
Week of the young child is a week that day cares and early learning centers try to do fun activities to make the children in their care feel even more special and just have fun. My husbands school does this. They have some fun activities, but the school that my daughter goes to really have fun. I wish I had taken pictures this week because its been a riot.
Every day is a different theme. Monday is Teddy Bear picnic day. The kids wear pajamas to school and bring their favorite bears. Christina wore her purple Dora the Explorer princess PJ’s and took her purple ballerina bear. Every child left that day with a prize for their bear.
Tuesday was Texas/Western Day. This day is always tough. But I found an old pair of overall that no longer fit Isaiah and tried them on they were a little long but not bad. I cuffed them added a red and white checked shirt and a black cow boy hat out of the dress up box and she was a cow girl. I think the most exciting thing was she was in pants (I have not been able to get her in pants for months all dresses all the time).
Today is Wacky Wednesday. They will read the book and were encouraged to dress wacky. My daughter was very excited about this one. So she picked out her outfit.
Capri pants with a skort over them and underwear over them. A top that does not match. Two different socks glitter in her hair and topped off with a diaper on her head. Yep. You read that right, underwear over a skort and diaper on the head. Does not get any wackier then that. I did not encourage her on this at all she had it all planned and my husband went right along with it.
(photo above is not of Wacky Wendesday but still its funny)

My birthday
Some day’s I just love being a mom. Not that I don’t like being a mom other day’s but there are days that it is just awesome. Yesterday was my birthday. I told my husband we were not going to do anything for it. I didn’t want presents or anything, just let it pass. Well I was on my way to work in the morning and I got a phone call. I answered it and my kids broke out into a full scale version of "Happy Birthday to you" They told me they loved me and then I had to get back to driving. I can not tell you why but it really got to me, touched my heart. I got teary up just a little bit.
Then I picked up Christina in the afternoon. She asked me where my cupcakes were. I asked what she was talking about. She said its my birthday I need cupcakes. I told her not this year. (it’s been a long time since I have had a party with cupcakes).
I got Isaiah and we went home I cooked dinner and then Allen got home. He pulled the kids aside and they were all secret. Finally they appear with a card and a CD (Group 1 Crew). Again I got teary. The card they both wrote their names in it. On their own they wrote their names. Isaiah has been doing this but to see It so clear was great and then Christina had all the letters in her name on there. They were out of order but there none the less. My kids are growing up and so sweet. My husband is pretty sweet too. He decided that he could not let my day go by with out some recognition.

Last nights funny
Last night Allen was taking care of the kids while I had a meeting. He decided that he would run through the drive through to get them some pasta and then head home to eat it there.
Well Christina decided she didn’t want to go there. She wanted to go somewhere else. Some how they came to an agreement and that there would be no fussing.
So as they got there she said "we are not going to be fussy, but I think I would prefer to have some sweet tea tonight"
Okay so what four year old says prefer over I want? And please tell me my children are not the only ones that like sweet tea. I guess its better then a soda right?
Later when Allen was giving Christina her bath he let Isaiah stay in the living room to watch Dinotopia. I have not seen this movie but I guess it’s a little intense. Isaiah kept coming into the bathroom and would say, "Daddy, I really think you should come out here. You could see some pretty scary stuff on the dinosaur movie" I though that is the best version of "I’m scared" without saying I have ever heard.
